The Phaung-Daw-Oo Pagoda festival is held around late Tawthalin (September) or in the month of Thadingyut (October), depending on the full moon Festivals are a major theme of life in Myanmar and mostly coincide with the full moons.
For towns folks it is the opportunity to take a few days off work and visit relatives in other parts of the country. For paddy farmers it is a well earned rest after bringing in the harvest. The weavers, basket-markers and other craftsmen also have a chance to sell their wares at the Inle Lake festivals. The Phaung-Daw-Oo festival is one of the most spectacular festivities in Myanmar.Four of the Buddha images of the pagoda are placed on the imitation of the royal barge and are rowed from village to village around the lake, stopping at each monastery. ....
